I awoke this morning to an email telling me that the image I’d submitted a month or so previously had been shortlisted as a finalist in the wild and vibrant category of Travel Photographer of the year. The competition is open to people worldwide and it showcases the best images that people have taken on their travels. There are various categories you can choose to enter, some requiring just the one image and some requiring up to 4/5 images as a portfolio to win the category and overall title of Travel Photographer of the year.
I don’t tend to enter many competitions mainly down to laziness on my part and I only stumbled across this one due to a conversation on Twitter but I ‘m really pleased I now took the time and entered. This is a worldwide competition so I’m not actually holding out hope of actually winning the category but it’s nice that the judges have seen fit to think my image was worthy of a final place. The Final judging takes place on 4th and 5th December 2014 so I presume I will now very shortly after that how I ended up doing. Until then I’m keeping my fingers crossed. Unfortunately I can’t share with you the image that has been selected due to not biasing the judges but I will as soon as I can. This has really cheered me up after my disappointment of not getting shortlisted and into the Landscape Photographer of the Year book 2014. I managed that last year on my first attempt of trying and was certain I had a couple of images worthy of being selected this year but fell at the first hurdle, like many a good photographer. But that is the fun of these things and we have to remember that we all do it as a hobby and primarly for fun and any acknowledgement we get from our peers is a bonus.
